A scholarly journal is a periodical publication which contains articles written by scholars and researchers. Before articles are published in these journals, they are typically evaluated for quality by a editorial board using a "peer review" process.  Articles must meet the standards of the scholarly journal before it is published.

You can locate scholarly journals using Catalog Plus as well as most of the databases offered by the SCAD Libraries. Many databases provide an option on the search screen that indicates "scholarly" or "peer reviewed", which will allow you to limit your results to scholarly or academic journals.

Take a look at the resource tip sheet linked below for a more detailed explanation about the differences between scholarly and non-scholarly publications. You will also find links to Catalog Plus and our Databases A-Z list, which will allow you to search for scholarly articles.
